On 17th July at the invitation of the chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces General Franciszek G±gor, Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola visited Poland.
Admiral Di Paola expressed his recognition for Poland’s involvement in NATO missions, namely operations in Afghanistan, Kosovo, training mission in Iraq (NTM-I) and the mission at the Mediterranean Sea. “Polish Armed Forces are also involved in other operations under the EU and the UN auspices. Summing up all these efforts we can say that Poland is one of the leading contributors to the world security”, emphasized Admiral Di Paola. Gen. G±gor stressed the fact that the visit of such a high-ranked NATO official coincides with the 10th anniversary of Poland’s accession to NATO.(...) “We appreciate this and treat it as a sign of recognition for the contribution Polish Armed Forces put into the Alliance's efforts to build up security in the region and the world”. "This recognition, G±gor continued, is manifested by among others the increase of the number of general’s posts for Poles in NATO commands and the decision to locate NATO signal battalion in Bydgoszcz" During the bilateral talks that followed Adm. Di Paola was briefed on the process of transformation of PAF and Polish experiences stemming from their involvement in operations abroad. He expressed a particular interest on the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.Polish side also presented its viewpoint on the developing NATO new strategic concept.Later during his visit, Adm. Di Paola provided a lecture at the National Defence University on the Alliance New Strategic Concept from the military perspective and met with representatives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Security Bureau.
